I wish I came up with this. This is a great cheat sheet for those who have not mastered the craft enough to break the rules.
Read this blog by Sean Hoade if you are an author. This says exactly why I started a publishing company.
Dear Every Male who says that “rape culture” is something we all live with, that women live in fear and that men need to go to rape training.
It’s bad enough other women keep trying to tell me that I should be afraid every moment of my life, I don’t need a self-appointed white-knight to convince me that I need them to protect me from other males. I’m an ADULT WOMAN. I can take care of myself thank you. I don’t put myself in situations that may lead to date rape. I don’t park my car in areas of town that might get me mugged. And I DON’T associate with men who are scumbags. The men I hang out with, and the man I married didn’t need somebody like you to tell them not to rape. They already knew that because they are good people.
If you really think that men need to go through rape prevention training then I want to know what feminist re-education camp you went through to teach you to control YOUR urge to rape every woman you see. You aren’t special. You aren’t “the safe one”. You’re a guy desperate to prove to a bunch of chicks who don’t want your attention that you are happy to stay in the friend zone for the rest of your life.
Stop trying to tell me to be afraid
Stop trying to convince me that I’m weak
Stop trying to tell the men in my life that they are just as weak as you.
Ok, I have to be serious. Too many people out there think they can post whatever they want online with no consequences. But there are consequences and this particular case hits me close to home.
The video I am about to share with you follows a man who was driven literally into an asylum due to what he read, and what he was told online. Regardless of what his mental status was at the begining, he might not have to have been talked down from a bridge or committed if people online didn’t willingly feed is paranoia. He could have gotten help before it came to that.
This is serious. Please watch this video. I know it’s long, but it is worth it.
The video is crated by the InternetAristocrat on YouTube
OMFG!!! 10 Days and already World War Kaiju is 45% funded!! This is amazing!! Please, if you haven’t checked out my Kickstarter yet, klick on the picture to the right. We still need your support if we are to make our goal. Plus, we have two stretch goals that add extra story content to the book. If we can make these goals, then EVERYBODY gets to share in the reward!
So please, help support World War Kaiju!
And now for a writing lesson. Besides running a publishing company and occasionally producing content, I am an editor. And as an editor I see a lot of people write a lot of strange things. Sometimes it is due to inexperience. Other times it is because they are “experimenting” but it almost always goes bad. Why? Because they don’t know what they are doing. So I like to make suggestions of do’s and dont’s to any begining and amature writers in the hopes that it helps them to find their talent faster and they can get their stories out into the world.
Yesterday I saw the following video from Glove and Boots. It is all about the Hero’s Journey and it is something ALL writers should be familiar with, even if they may not use it. Enjoy.
